IN TUNE WITH THE GREEN PROTOCOL...
MGU-Green Lab had a humble launch in the year 2021 as a value-addition initiative affiliated to Nirmmalam - MGU, the Green Protocol implementation project of Mahatma Gandhi University. With its primary focus on all sorts of biodegradable waste generated on the campus the project - since then, has been exploring different possibilities of transforming biodegradable waste into value- added products that can support sustainable life. Powered by the mother earth and Nirmmalam-MGU the project has created a few compost based products that found their way into the home gardens of the green thumps of the University community. Aerobic composting, the cheapest and the most popular technique that the world goes after to tackle the problem of biodegradable waste is the powerhouse of this project. Aerobic compost units- 'the temples of cleanliness' as they are termed under the project has witnessed a host of experiments and are still undergoing modifications and updates so as to ensure and upscale the quality of final output they deliver.
Products like 'The Complete Plant Food 'and 'Plant Now Pots were wholeheartedly received by those among the university community who love nurturing vegetables and flower plants on whatever spaces available to them . Giving a thumps up to all the efforts to redefine the concept of waste management ,the green souls of the campus came forward to buy the said products accepting the price tags attached to them .The result- a slow but steady inflow of a pretty good sum to the university exchequer in a reasonable span of time.

The MGU Green Lab, a flagship project affiliated to Nirmmalam MGU, stands as a living example of how innovation and community participation can come together to redefine sustainability. What started as a modest step towards better waste management has grown into a comprehensive sustainability hub that touches nearly every aspect of university life.
With a view to bring out high-quality eco-products, MGU Green Lab has set up a dedicated workstation with heavy duty power tools. The wood chippers, leaf shredders, manure mixers, crushers, and compost sifters allow us to process campus waste efficiently into sustainable solutions that support greener living.
It is not just a project, but a movement within Mahatma Gandhi University, one that inspires action, cultivates responsibility, and fosters an eco-conscious mindset among students, faculty, and staff. At its core, MGU-Green Lab embodies the spirit of the essence of Gandhian concept of education - learning not just from within the classrooms - but , straight from nature as well through experiments, practice, by sharing visions and working together- for a better tomorrow.
